A healthy contingent of Imps fans were left enraged as the most blatent offside in the history of football was ignored to give Huddersfield an extremely controversial winner.
The Imps were under pressure straight from kick off as Huddersfield showed why they are in the playoff places but they couldn't find the finishing touch which was made evident by the Imps. 17 minutes had passed before the first chance the Imps had. Mark Bailey played the long ball but Phil Senior was unsure and dropped the ball on the edge of the area allowing Marcus Richardson to pick up the loose ball and score the Imps first shot of the game.
It could have been 2-0 minutes later as Paul Mayo ran 1-1 with the keeper but his shot was well saved by Senior.
The 2nd half kicked off and within 2 minutes, Efe Sodje had equalised. A corner was floated in, headed across goal by Booth and Sodje forced a header in.
With 20 minutes to go, the most controversial incident in recent history. A long ball was played forward to Pavel Abbott who was at least 10 yards offside. The linesman flagged offside and the ref blew his whistle. Abbott proceeded anyway and put the ball in the back of the net. The ref however went over to the assistant and then controversial allowed the goal after he had stopped play.
Imps players, supporters and officials were incensed by this. Players and officials were surrounding the referee but the ref refused to accept he was wrong.
The Imps dominated after that and could have so easily regained at least a point so many times. The last chance fell to Cropper and to be honest, I don't even have to say what happened do I.
George Cain, you are the worst referee I have ever seen. You gave every decision the wrong way, you gave decisions that should have gone Huddersfield's way to us and vice versa. YOU ARE A MUPPET.
