The game was very edgy at the start with York having the better of the player but without really threatening the Imps goal.
The first decent shot came from a suprise source, Ben Sedgemore left footed volley from 20 yards when narrowly wide.
With a very dull first half nearly over, the Imps got a break. A cross from Mark Bailey was floated into the box but Marcus Richardson was dragged down by Darren Edmonson. Paul Mayo stepped up and scored his 8th of the season.
After half time, City really began to dominate the game.
Marcus Richardson passed to the unmarked Francis Green who ran towards goal. He megged an on rushing defender and whalloped the ball into the net for 2-0.
3 minutes later, it was 3-0. With almost every Imps player in the York half, Gary Fletcher passed to Gain who shot past Ovendale with the help of a small deflection.
Yeo and Cropper came on and unusually, the substitions paid off.
Cropper almost scored his first goal in 18 months but it went agonisingly wide but then the other sub made sure of the victory for those who weren't already sure it was secure.
A Paul Mayo cross on the ground was left by everyone including the York keeper and 2 York defenders who were going to let it go out but Simon Yeo snook round the back and tapped in from 3 yards.
York did regain some pride however when Lee Bullock scored from the edge of the 6 yard box.
