However Oxford got a reputation, I don't know because today, they were an excellent attacking team. Despite not doing enough to score, they kept it tight at the back.
The Imps start shooting towards the end without a stand. Infact, they had the better of the opening play but the majority of the balls into the box weren't used effiecently and the biggest culprit, Francis Green who missed 5 crosses in 5 minutes.
Mark Bailey and Marcus Richardson both pentrated the imposing defence and Bailey had the best chance of the half when his shot from 2 yards out went over the bar.
Good work from Richardson on the right saw the ball eventually reach Francis Green who could only shoot along the bar and not ever getting the ball in the 6 yard box before it went out for a goal kick.
Oxford then had their first chance of the game after half an hour but Steve Basham's incredibly weak shot went miles wide.
Good build up from City on the edge of the Oxford area saw the ball eventually fall to Fletcher who forced Woodman into an excellent save.
City's first corner of the game came with only 2 minutes of the half remaining but Futcher's header went quite far over.
It took 10 minutes of the first half for the Imps to grind out their first chance but running one on one with the keeper saw Francis Green hesitate and it allowed the Oxford defence to get back. Green crossed it in and Richardson's volley hit the lower post.
Paul Mayo then almost gifted Oxford the lead. He was tripped by Jefferson Louis and thought he had fouled. Mayo then stupidly picked up the ball despite the ref not giving a free kick. However, he gave a free kick to Oxford for the deliberate handball. They quickly took the free kick and broke the offside trap. Wanless ran one on one with Marriott but Mayo caught up but fouled him on the edge of the box. Oxford appealed for a penalty and the ref blew his whistle but booked him for diving.
Richard Butcher and Yeo came on for Fletcher and Green and that seemed to signal the end of City's offensive play as they only had one more chance. Yeo's shot was blocked by McNiven.
The game was even for the rest of the game but Oxford could have stolen all the points in the final minute when an excellent 30 yard volley was even more excellently saved by Marriott.
