With the oppurtunity to move within touching distance of the top 5, City needed a good start to clam nerves and the first oppurtunity of the game resulted in City going 1-0 up after all of 4 minutes. A cross from Mayo went over everyone but landed at the feet of Gary Fletcher and the in-form striker calmly slotted the ball into the bottom land hand corner of the goal.
It could have been 2-0 within a minute as Ben Futcher decided to go on a weaving run but his final shot went well wide and didn't reflect the quality of his run.
Paul Mayo then got a bit over-confident and saw his 45 yard shot go just wide. Bury were playing pityfully and didn't get the ball into the Imps half for the vast majority of the 1st half.
A Mark Bailey corner was fumbled by Garner who could only see the ball bounce off Futcher's back and Francis Green headed in from a very small distance.
Yet another City effort from Gary Fletcher saw his shot hit the top of the bar and go out for a goal kick. Futcher then almost a personal record of 2 kicked goals in a season but his shot from 6 yards went way over the bar.
Fletcher could have easily scored 2 hatricks today and Bury are the most appaling side I've seen at Sincil Bank this season. Even Carlisle put up more effort than them. Their first "attack" in the game saw a run down the left but City pressure resulted in the ball constantly being passed back and Glyn Garner almost did Peter Enkelman but thankfully for him, it went wide and out for a corner.
Bury did however got a consolation towards the end when City turned off and Porter tapped it in from a yard out. This was typical of the Imps this season as almost half the goals the Imps have conceeded have been scored in the last 15 minutes.
Overall a great display from the Imps against a very poor Bury side. We are now firmly in the playoffs and only 2 points off 5th. Another good/bad thing is that next week, we play Oxford, if City win, we can possibly move above Yeovil into forth and be (at minimum) 7 points off top spot in Division 3.
