Imps gain revenge in one sided affair
By Nathan Jackson
December 26 2003
The Imps have finally got revenge on their local rivals as they dominated the game but could only make the domination count thanks to a 61st minute penalty from Paul Mayo.
The opening 15 minutes of the game were an extremely timid affiar with very little going on. The only real chance came from Yeo who had he's volley from 20 yards excellent saved by Paul Bastock.

City gained a corner and from that, Cropper headed the ball against the bar before being cleared by stone-face Paul (B)Ellender.

Bailey and Rusk were lucky not to walk after 16 minutes after getting into a fight, they both escaped any punishement.

Cropper was soon forced off as (B)Ellender kicked him (prosumed accidentally) in behind the eyes and cut the City striker open. Cropper was replaced with Richardson after only 23 minutes.

Neil Redfearn then forced Boston's only chance in the first half as his week effort went well wide.

Richardson then ran down the left before skipping over and around 5 Boston players but instead of trying to shoot himself, he passed it along the box and only the narrowest touch from the toe off Weatherstone prevented the ball from getting to Yeo who had a completely open goal to score into.

Half time arrived and City SHOULD have been 4 or 5 up, we were completely dominating the game.

Bailey had an excellent chance after 17 seconds of the 2nd half when Richardson released Bailey down the right but he saw his thunderous shot sail into Bastock's arms.

Butcher soon pulled a muscle in his leg and was replaced by Niall McNamara and (B)ellender showed his professionalism by greeting McNamara with an elbow before clearing a Mark Bailey corner.

Then our beloved (B)Elleneder fouled Fletcher to give the Imps a penalty. Paul Mayo's thunderous penalty sailed past a statuesque Bastock.

3 minutes later, Lee Chapman was sent off for a second bookable offence although his incredibly late doubled footed challenge was worthy of a straight red.

By this time, the B/Ender was really pissing everyone off and even tried to play basketball in his area but luckyily for him, the officials didn't see him.

The only other notable chance of the half was Francis Green missing a header from 3 yards out.

What a game for the Imps and just remember, revenge is sweet, as sweet as apple pie.
