The Imps are through to the next round of the LDV Vans Trophy after beating Chesterfield 4-3. Gary Fletcher started the game off by scoring a goal after just 42 seconds. His shot deflected off a defender and sailed into the top right hand corner.
City couldn't make their dominance of the pay and it proved costly as in the 33rd minute, a mistake from Matthew Bloomer let in Brandon who slotted cooly into the bottom right hand corner despite the best attempts of Futcher to clear it off the line.
Just after the half time interval, City again took the lead when Futcher lobbed a ball forward to Yeo who produced a beautiful half volley over the keeper to give the Imps the lead again.
A harsh decision on Futcher was given when he was adjudged to have handled it despite of it hitting his face. Paul Warhurst hit a Beckham style free kick and it was 2-2.
Fletcher then had a perfectly good goal disallowed when his header from 5 yards sailed into the goal but was ruled out for a supposed offside.
Simon Yeo was playing an inspirational game and in the 84th minute, he burst into the box only to be brought down by 2 Chesterfield defender. Mayo stepped up for the penalty and smashed it past the keeper.
However, with only 2 minutes remaining. A goal almost identical to the first gave Chesterfield a 3rd and rather undeserved goal when Brandon smashed it into the bottom left hand corner in a mirror image of his first goal.
Extra time ensued with the silver goal looming. It was City who scored first in extra time when Fletcher again chipped it over the keeper to give the Imps a 4-3 lead. The Imps held out and progressed into the 3rd round.
