Macclesfield started the game kicking towards the Stacey West stand but it was City who carved out the first chance when an overhead kick from Francis Green from a Mayo free kick went quite wide.
It was Green who also had the 2nd chance of the game when his header went just wide. Fletcher then saw his low drive parried out by Myhill.
City then had a goal disallowed from Green for alleged offside. However, it didn't take long for City to legally gain the lead (no pun intended). The ball was cross in, Myhill flapped at it and the ball went to Gain who volleyed sweetly into the top left hand corner of the net.
Yeo and Fletcher both had great oppurtunities to make it 2-0 but the halftime score read 1-0 to City.
However, after the 2nd half kicked off, it soon changed as good work on the right resulted in a cross and Tipton headed in to give the visitors a suprise equaliser. However, their hopes for a goal to give them the lead lasted less than a minute as a cross from Gain was met by the right foot by Ricky Butcher who shot into the top left hand corner of the net.
Despite numerous chances being wasted by City, Macclesfield then produced a goal out of nowhere. Tipton was on the edge of the area with 5 defenders around him, he somehow managed to shoot a shot in between all of them and into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
The atmosphere around Sincil Bank was like City were losing heavily and City fans started leaving as soon as the added on time was announced. However, those that left, missed something unexpected.
A late flurry from City saw Paul Mayo cross to Butcher whose shot deflected off Francis Green and sent Sincil Bank in raptures.
So City are now 8th in the table and a win at Hull on Saturday, could see the Imps move to the head of the playoff pack but we would have to totally thrash Hull for that to happen.
