City got off to a a good start in this years LDV competition with a 3-1 win over conference side Telford. Despite the scoreline, it was a far from easy game as Telford put on a very good.
Lee Frecklington was the only addition to the squad as he replaced Richard Liburd to make his debut for the Imps. He played extremely well and we'll hopefully see him a lot more throughout the season.
The Imps opened their account on 5 minutes when a goal mouth scramble saw Francis Green eventually prod the ball over the line.
Despite of numerous oppurtunities, City couldn't double their lead before half time. 5 minutes after half time, Telford suprisingly drew level when a low shot from the right was saved but the follow up was smashed into the net.
In the 72nd minute another goal mouth scramble saw Ricky Butcher's header go under the bar but no-one was sure whether it had gone over the line or not. Marcus Richardson decided to make sure although it has now been credited as Butcher's goal.
Bailey then rounded off the scoring with a nicely worked free kick from about 25 yards out.
So who can City play in the next round?
Possible Opponents
Hull
Scunthorpe
Stockport
Huddersfield
Bury
Scarborough
Carlisle
Halifax
Blackpool
Oldham
Wrexham
Doncaster
Chesterfield
The winner of Notts County and Barnsley
The winner of Sheffield Wednesday and Grimsby
I would preferably like to play the winner of the Wednesday vs Grimsby game at their ground but knowing my luck, we'll probably draw Carlisle away on a Tuesday night in mid winter.
