774 fans made their way down to the Abbey Stadium to hopefully gain momentum after a slow start to the season but luck wasn't on their side yet again and other crap ref was on display. City lined up against 3 ex-Imps, Justin Walker, Terry Fleming and Stuart Bimson who recieved a very warm reception from the travelling contingient.
The first chance of the game came less than 30 seconds after kick off when good build up down the right resulted in Luke Gutteridge coming close to open the scoring but could only sent his volley a couple of yards wide.
2 corners then went Cambridge's way, the first, taken by Bimson, went over everyone except Simon Weaver who headed out for another corner. This one, went straight into Marriott's arms.
City then got a corner but it went past everyone and out for a goal kick. Another corner came less than 20 seconds later but Simon Weaver could only head Mayo's corner mere inches over the bar.
Dave Kitson then latched onto a long ball beaten the Imp's offside trap but could only send his tame shot straight at Marriott. Gary Fletcher then shamelessly volleyed 10 yards wide.
Fletcher then, however, had probrably the best chance of the game when a Mark Bailey free kick came his way, he headed it from Point Blank range only for Shaun Marshall to pull of a great save and no-one could follow up and it was quickly cleared. Stuart Bimson then nearly gifted the Imps the lead when an overpowered header back to Marshall went passed the keeper and Bailey was running in but it went out for a corner before Bailey could get to it.
City kept piling the pressure on and had numerous shots on target before the ref turned into a complete twat (as usual) giving EVERYTHING Cambridge's way.
Richardson was then given a great oppurtunity when the ball went 2 yards in front of him not far out from goal but instead of running on, Richardson just stood there not moving, he was clearly onside but a Cambridge defender had to run round him and get the ball before the useless player realised what was going on.
The final whistle blew after Yeo, Cropper, Gain, Butcher had blown great oppuruntities to give City the lead. Oh well, at least we're ahead of the Inbreds in the table for the 1st time this season.
