City draw a blank but hold Donny to a draw

City have finally gained their first point of the season against Doncaster, it was a good game but still ended 0-0. O well, at least it's a start
After last Saturday's diabolical display, today was a chance for City to gain their first points of the season and managed it from what I think was a really good display from the City team.

Just over 5000 in the Bank saw City have the first oppurtunity when Ben Futcher headed straight into Tommy Waddrington's hands. Gary Fletcher then had a long range shot parried wide by Waddrington.

Doncaster pushed forward and forced good saves from Marriott but they were their own worst enemy infront of goal. City gained a free kick on the edge of the area and as it looked like Bailey was about to hit a curler, Mayo passed it to Liburd who crossed it in but everyone missed it and Doncaster broke down the right but City soon recovered and a game of head-tennis started.

The teams went in level after the break. Doncaster had the first chance of the second half but Fortune-West could only manage to put the ball 5 yards wide. Dene Cropper then had a very good chance to open the scoring but his shot went just over. The ball went wandering around the midfield for a while before Butcher found himself with very few options half way inside the City half. He passed it back to Marriott but Fortune-West intercepted but dragged his shot inches wide.

A city free kick resulted in Futcher having an open goal but he was on the ground at the time so couldn't make the most of the chance and for some strange reason, the ref gave Doncaster a free kick from where Futcher was even though there wasn't a player near him and he wasn't offside. Nothing suprises me with these refs anymore.

Bailey forced a good save from Warrington from his free kick. The last decent chance came when a Doncaster free kick was curling in before Marriott made one of his routine saves.

So overall, a good day for City considering, although we didn't score, we didn't lose so things are looking up. Elsewhere in the Division were some suprise results. Leyton Orient beat previously unbeaten Yeovil by 2-0. Bury also beat the un-beaten Kidderminster by the same score. Hull came from 3-1 down to get a 3-3 draw against Cheltenham. Mansfield won 3-0 at Southend. York won 1-0 at Huddersfield. Scunthorpe and Oxford drew 1-1. Darlington lost 1-0 away at Northampton and Swansea beat the inbreds 3-0 on Friday Night , Macclesfield and Torquay drew. Bristol Rovers won 2-0 at Carlisle. Finally, Rochdale drew 2-2 with Cambridge.

So we've got our first point. Swansea and York are top, Carlisle and Darlington are the only 2 teams not to have a point yet whilst the Imps are the only team not to have scored yet.
