Result - Torquay 1 Lincoln City 0
By Nathan Jackson
September 28 2003
A last minute goal proved to be all that was needed to send City to their 3rd 1-0 defeat in a row and the 4th defeat in a row in competitive games. City currently lie 19th and are yet to score.
A pretty tedious day all round as far as fans on the offical coaches were concerned. 50 City fans didn't get to the ground till after kick off due to traffic delays.

All the early chances went to Torquay and it was only because of keeper Alan Marriott that City didn't conceed. The best chance fell to Martin Fowler who's 20 yard volleyed went just wide.

City had numerous chances with Yeo, Fletcher and Sedgemore all missing vital chances. In the injury time of the first half, City thought that had taken the lead when a free kick hit the post and it came back out to a city player who hit it into the back of the net only to have it ruled out for a foul.

In the 2nd half, Torquay did everything they could to get a city player sent off with Ben Sedgemore, Paul Mayo and Richard Butcher all lucky not to be sent off.

Yeo then spurned a good chance on the volley which went miles wide. In an afternoon when everyone seemed afraid to shoot, the best example had to be Rory May who was clear on the right and could have easily had a run on goal but stood and waited for the Torquay defenders to get back and pressurise him and when he eventually did shoot, it went towards the corner flag.

Torquay then broke down the right and poor marking from Mayo allowed a cross to go to a Torquay player who slotted past Marriott in the 89th minute.

Yeo then wasted a good oppurtunity to draw level but his shot went straight into the Torquay keepers arms.

So, City have lost yet again, without scoring a goal, AGAIN, with having a poor performance, AGAIN. This has got to improve if we're to do anything at all this season. The whole team was poor with Marriott being the only player coming out with any credit what so ever.
