City's terrible run on the first day of the season has continued as it became only 1 win on the first day since 1995 and that was against Rotherham in the 1999/2000 season. However there is renewed optimism as last time City were promoted, they lost on the first day of the season.
For the 4th time in a row, City have lost to Oxford, the previous 3 have also, all finished 1-0. City named the expected squad but all that fell apart when a long ball was played into the Lincoln box where Weaver looked like he had fouled Alsop after Marriott flapped whilst trying to catch it, Alsop quickly got up, tapped the ball to Basham who hit into the open net.
It was end to end stuff but Lincoln couldn't muster a few passes together and very rarely got a shot on target. Oxford looked dangerous coming forward. Yeo ran into the box in the 20th minute but kicked it out of bounds, then him and an Oxford player got in a mini-fight and both got a yellow card. Yeo's beginning to the season lasted all of 30 minutes as he was sent off after kicking the ball away after being called offside. Keith won't have been pleased by this, he also won't be pleased by the fact the ball boy he almost hit, was Keith's son.
Both sides squandered chance after chance. Oxford lived up to their reputation as time wasters and even their own fans started counting how long it was taking them to do something. Oxford players used every oppurtunity to waste time and often feigned injury. The worst incident of this was when Peter Gain's shot went wide and all City and Oxford players were walking back and all of a sudden, an Oxford player just claspes like he's been kicked in the face even though the nearest player was 20 yards away.
Gain, Butcher, Mayo, Remy, May and Futcher all came close but all in all, City were extremely poor against an Oxford side who didn't look particully special themselves. City found themselves lying 18th after this game whilst opponents Oxford are in 9th place. Hull currently top the division after beating Darlington 4-1.
Oh well, City's next game is at home to Stockport in the Carling Cup, this is closely followed by a trip to Torquay.
