Where do you think you're going? : Shrewsbury
By Nathan Jackson June 11 2007
All Lincoln City fans will travel to their second home yet again during the 2008/9 season. The Imps have won the last 5 games played between the two sides at the home of the Shrews, surely a sixth can't be on the cards at a very different ground to Gay Meadow.

City's run at Shrewsbury goes back a few years, winning the last 5 meetings between the 2 sides at Gay Meadow, all by a single goal. You'd have to go back to the 2000/1 season to find the last Shrewsbury victory over the Imps at Gay Meadow...but this isn't Gay Meadow.

"New Meadow" is a very different ground to Gay Meadow. Gay Meadow had a decent atmosphere and a unique look towards it, New Meadow doesn't. Don't get me wrong, New Meadow isn't bad, but it's just got that "I've seen this somewhere before" feel to it. However, the view from the away end is considerably better than you would get at Gay Meadow and that's one of the better things about this new ground.

As for pubs, there are quite a few within a reasonable distance apparantly, with the most popular choice being the Brooklands Hotel. This is a 5 minute walk away and also features a "Park and Walk" system. This costs £5 but unless you fancy street parking, then this is the best option for you really.

To get there, at the end of the M54 continue onto the A5. After about seven miles, there is a traffic island which is at the junction with the A49.Beat left  and at the first roundabout you come to, head straight on. Turn right at the next roundabout. Take the 4th exit from the next exit. The stadium is on the right down this road.

Trains to Shrewsbury are surprisingly sparse. For all trains there simply head to Nottingham and then from there get the train to Birmingham New Street. Fortunately they do a direct service to Shrewsbury so it should be a relatively easy journey to get to the Shropshire Town.

You've only got two chances to get back to Lincoln the same day. To get back just make the reverse journey that you made to get to Shrewsbury. All returns cost £35.30.

The ground is a fair old walk from the station so it's best to either get a taxi or the bus to the ground. For this reason your only realistic train to get back on is the 18:24 train.
