In the 10^th minute, Accrington won another corner, Paul Mullin rose highest and headed home, only for the referee to rule it out for a foul on Marriott. City punished this as they won a corner 4 minutes later. The set-piece was poorly taken but fell to Lee Beevers, the defender then sent a volley into the bottom corner of the net to give the Imps a deserved lead.

Nat Brown then picked up a booking, it was his 5^th of the season meaning that he will miss the Mansfield game. Marriott produced a fine save from the free kick that had been awarded. However, the defence fell asleep as Andy Todd ran in behind them before sending a shot across goal and made it 1-1 against the run of play. Forrester should have restored the lead quickly but his shot was well save by the goalkeeper.

Marriott easily saved a weak Mullin shot. City went up the other end and won a corner, this was however wasted as Hughes hit it straight against the first defender. The referee finally noticed Welch’s constant barging into Stallard and awarded the Imps a free kick. The only other noteworthy incident of the first half came when Andy Todd was booked for time wasting.

City were highly unlucky not to re-establish the lead almost instantaneously in the second half as a cross into the box saw Frecklington have a shot blocked by Stallard, the striker turned and half-volleyed the ball goal wards but it again hit a defender. City dominated the opening stages of the second half, and 10 minutes since the break, Amoo and Eaden worked well before playing a ball over the top, it found Scott Kerr and the midfielder chipped over the advancing keeper to make it 2-1 to the Imps. He was booked 3 minutes later when fouling Grant.

Boco replaced Mangan for the hosts, within a minute Frecklington had a shot go just wide. The game seriously slowed down with the Imps continuing to dominating, however they were fortunate to stay ahead when Marriott excellently saved an Edwards volley. It wasn’t long before Accrington found the net out of nowhere however. The defence again fell to sleep as Paul Mullin broke forward, he neatly slotted under Marriott to give Stanley an equaliser that hadn’t deserved.

Green replaced Amoo before Weir-Daley came on for Hughes. Whalley shot wide before Weir-Daley came close to a 4^th goal in 3 games but Kazimierczak managed to get a hand to the ball, and eventually managed to get it under control. Frecklington wasted a good chance minutes later as he dragged a shot wide desite having several players in better positions. That was the final chance of the game.
