The Imps won 2-1 at Peterborough United at the weekend to prove that our ex-players who play for them aren't needed here. Peterborough managed just one shot on target in the entire game and that came in the middle of the winning goals from Ryan Amoo, one of the least likely scorers on the pitch.

Going into yesterday’s game, I wasn’t too sure of what to expect because under Keith Alexander, we usually ended up dominating teams that played football in this division (that were few and far between in this division). Yesterday however, we were never really troubled by Peterborough and although they put on a bit of pressure every now and then, they very rarely looked like scoring and as far as I can recall, they only had one shot on target and that was the goal.

Yesterday did throw up one surprise and that Ryan Amoo not scoring just once, but twice. I think Amoo is one of the unsung heroes of the season. He started off the season quite slowly, obviously still shocked by the fact he once dated Z-list celebrity, Jade Goody, but recently he’s improved

immensely and has been unlucky to not score himself within the last few weeks. The two goals were excellent finishes and our strikers would have been proud of them, and ironically our leading scorer had an off day, maybe Amoo nicked his scoring boots.

Imagine you play for Peterborough, you think you’ve got time on the ball, and all of a sudden, a Lincoln player is putting in a tackle and winning the ball, not once, not twice, but all game. I’m sure you all know who I’m about to talk about so I’ll just got get straight to it. Lee Beevers is probably the most passionate player in an Imps shirt and never lacks any effort and is one of the front-runners for "Player of the Season." If the rumoured Paul Morgan transfers do happen in January then Beevers is surely the first choice for his replacement as captain.

This results continues a dominating December for the Imps. We’ve been the team on top in all 4 games this month and strangely enough, the most dominant performance was the only game we lost as Chester scored on the break with their only 4 shots on goal. Infact, other than the disgrace that was the home game against Darlington, we haven’t been second best in a match for quite a while and had it not been for our recent run of conceding the first shot on target against us, we’d probably be top at the minute because of Walsall’s dodgy run.

As for Peterborough, well it was just like watching the last 4 years squeezed into a 90 minute spell. Despite Peterborough fans claiming that they played it on the ground, you’d have been hard pushed to find more than a small handful of passing moves together. Ironically, just like Keith Alexander’s Lincoln side were, Peterborough are known as a set piece team but just like the vast majority of the set pieces we had under Keith Alexander, they came to nothing and it’s a very odd sign that he got a defender to take a close range free kick, especially when the defender has apparently never taken a free kick outside of his own half.

Oh well, 2 derbies, 6 points and now onto what could turn out to be our last chance to beat Boston at home in the football league.
