Reaction to the Bury game
By Nathan Jackson September 30 2006
Lincoln City are now officially in bad form after a 3rd defeat in 4 but that only tells half the story of how bad we are. Since the Macclesfield game, the Imps, barring a 45 minute spell at Wycombe, have been absolutely dreadful and the Bury defeat was the second in a 3 day spell.

When you're beaten by a team that are simply better than you, then you can accept it on one level, simply because you weren't good enough, but when the other team beat you because your team couldn't be bothered to put the effort in then that really pisses you off. Watching the Imps now is starting to get painful and it seems unbelieveable the going into the game against MK Dons two weeks ago, we were undefeated. The problem is not just a lack of effort, we've turned back into an hoofball side again and we simply don't have the strikeforce to deal with this sort of threat.

There were spells during today's game where we played the ball on the ground and were getting through Bury easily before giving the ball to either Hughes, Mayo or Eaden and the ball going straight back to the opposition. When we kept it on the ground, Bury were chasing shadows but the majority of the time, all we did was hoof the ball and it was easy for the Bury defence to cope with the two strikers who seemed eager to run away from the ball.

Annoyingly, these two games against Boston and Bury were highly winnable and yet, we've lost both and are looking at the fact that if we'd won both, we'd be top of the league, instead, we're now looking over our shoulders and if results don't go out way next week, we'll be down to 6th, just 2 points against 7th place.

Although it's not a total disaster to be down to 4th in the division, it's impossible to ignore the performances in the last 7 days and the game against Hartlepool will be the biggest of the season so far because we deseperately need a win to get confidence up at Sincil Bank.

Alan Marriott - 5 - Didn't have a chance with the first due to the crowded area, second one he was unlucky but the command of his area and his distribution techniques are shocking to say the least.

Jeff Hughes - 1 - Man of the Match?!?!?!?!?! Whoever thought this was clearly on something as only Eaden was as inept as him. He's gotten to far up his own arse and he now seemingly has no knowledge of when to pass the ball. If he's one of the 11 best Northern Irish Under 21 players, then it says a lot about the youth systems over there.

Adie Moses - 5 - Any chance you can learn to jump anytime soon? I've rated you before now but you seem to be a bit unreliable at the back at the minute and I wish you'd learn to tackle.

Paul Morgan - 6 - A few good backwards passes but was often caught not paying attention and was the hell was he doing running up the wing?

Lee Beevers - 8 - The only starting player who seemingly tried. Never gave up and was always trying to win the ball. If all players had his level of commitment then we'd be sorted.

Nicky Eaden - 0 - I don't even know where to begin with this one.....so I won't try. No coincedence that we improved after he came off.

Lee Frecklington - 5 - Lack of concentration is costing him and although he's still playing okish, he's doing his chances of playing at a higher level a lot of harm with a seeming inability to close the ball down.

Scott Kerr - 4 - Very quiet and seems to be exhausted after his fast paced start to the season. Maybe it's time to give him a rest?

Paul Mayo - 4 - Played some good balls down the middle of the pitch but with the strikers not bothering to run on to them, he took the blame for wasting the ball. Did okish until a mistake got the crowd on his back and it just went downhill from there.

Mark Stallard - 5 - He reminds me a lot of Taylor-Fletcher, he'll score and make himself a hero but then won't do anything for another 8/9 games. Looked either very lazy or very tired as he wasn't running onto anything.

Jamie Forrester - 6 - Just like against Boston, he was man-marked and it took away a lot of what he brought to the squad. Should have absolutely buried that header.

Martin Gritton - 7 - Won every single header when he came on and ruffled a few feathers, maybe it's time we gave him another start, even if it is just to give either Stallard or Forrester a rest but he definately deserves a chance.

Ryan Amoo - 7 - When he replaced Eaden, the difference was immense, he got stuck in and generally did everything that Eaden didn't....which is a fair old bit.

"Well absolute garbage, no i tell a lie wasnt even that good. If we lose and the team has given their all then ok, but to give your all to have to start. The team ( and i use the term losely) didnt even turn up. Ok we praise when we win, and also have the right to have a go when we lose. That team had no passion, no grit and were totally clueless. Hughes man of the match, well a joke. Any similarity between him and a footballer is purely coincidental. I would drop 5, bring in the subs just to show that certain players places are not theirs by right ." Cheshire Imp

"When is this team going to learn that we CANNOT give the ball back to the opposition at every opportunity?? That only puts us back under pressure. Another point, how many times did opur midfield players attempt a pass without looking up first, thereby again giving the ball away?? They were all guilty of that today, but especially, Frecklington." PoshImp

"I personally would have been pleased if someone had been sent off. At least it would have shown some passion or commitment to the cause. Morgan as captain on the pitch should have been shouting and balling at players instead of clapping them and patting them on their backs.

To be honest i saw today any reason for them to get paid. If most of us turned up and performed that badly for work we would have got the sack. Or is it maybe we have over the first 8-9 matches grown to expext more from them." SlimBoyFat
