Returning to the scene that started it all

City's run of 6 straight away league wins started with a 3-0 win at Wycombe last season and could history be repeating? Despite being top of the table, Wycombe have only faced 2 teams that won't be struggling against relegation at the end of the season.

Undefeated on the road since April, 6 straight away league wins and now an away trip against the most over-rated team in the division. Wycombe are top of merit after winning 6 league games in a row against the majority of the teams in the lower reaches of the division and City will be hoping for a repeat performance of the game that started City's 6 straight away win run.

Back in April, City won convincingly against the apparant best team in the division and since then, City have come out of Shrewsbury (twice), Hereford, Torquay and Mansfield with maximum points but do all runs end where they started, if so then it will bring to an end the record that City acieved with the win at Mansfield.

It is a weekend that is guaranteed to see the Imps move into the top 3 with a win and possible even move to of the table but despite Wycombe's easy start to the season, they won't be an easy side to beat, especially as they did what City couldn't do and win at Fulham in the 2nd Round of the Carling Cup, however, who remembers what happened in the game following that?

Mark Stallard is still a doubt after limping out of the MK Dons game last week and he will more than likely be replaced by Martin Gritton. Other than that, there is unlikely to be an changes to a side that lost to the referee last Saturday.

If you look at the league table, you automatically assume that the team at the top have had a varied array of teams and done well against them all, however, Wycombe have only faced 1 of the current top 10 and that ended in a defeat for Wycombe. After being over-rated last season, it'll certainly be interesting to see if Wycombe after over-hyped again.

They started with a 1-1 draw with the other over-rated team in this division, Wrexham before beating Bristol Rovers a few days later with a 2-1 win at the Memorial Stadium. That singular flaunt with a top 10 side came in an away game with Notts County and the Magpies beat Wycombe 1-0. An unsuprising 3-0 win over relegation favourites Bury started a record breaking run for Wycombe as they went on to record a new club record. Their first ever visit to Swansea's new ground resulted in a 3-2 win to see them progress in the Carling Cup.

The towns of Macclesfield and Mansfield were the next to suffer as they were beaten 2-0 and 1-0 respectively and then it was Chester to suffer by a 1-0 scoreline. Their only impressive win in this run came at Hereford United with a 2-1 success before beating hapless Rochdale 2-0 a few days later before their win at Fulham on Wednesday.

I bet seeing that run of teams has calmed a lot of Lincoln fans down as City are only 2 points behind Wycombe and we've played promotion contenders Notts County, Torquay, Walsall, Shrewsbury and MK Dons, a considerable harder run that the Chairboys have had.

However, Wycombe do have a highly capable squad and with Jermaine Easter finally scoring for them, they might last the distance this time rather than their tame efforts towards the end of last season which saw them whimper into the playoffs and then seemingly not put up a fight against eventual winners, Cheltenham. Tommy Mooney scored in their home leg against the Robins and he is the biggest threat to the Imps.
