City hope to continue away form at Edgar Street
By Nathan Jackson August 7 2006
City will go to Hereford United's Edgar Street hoping to extend a run that has seen just 3 defeats in 11 games on the road. It will be far from an easy game against the recently promoted Bulls though who opened their season with a good win the other day and it's a game neither can lose.

For the 3rd time in 6 seasons, City will be the opponents for a promoted team's first home game. After drawing 0-0 at Rushden in 2001/2 and beating Shrewsbury in 2004/5, then Imps will be hoping for a similar result against the Bulls. It will be far from an easy game against a team who've been fighting at the top of the Conference for the last 3 years and have beaten several league teams in numerous competitions along the way.

Saturday's game against Notts County was disappointing in terms of the result but if we'd had a bit more luck with the shots in the first half then we'd have easily won but either way, a draw wasn't a bad result against a team who, to steal one of Keith Alexander's quotes, will be there or there abouts come the end of the season.

Overall, results aren't as vital at this early stage of the season but we still can't really afford to get off to a 4th bad start in a row if we have any serious aspirations of promotion.

Please note, report, reaction and video won't be on here until Wednesday evening.

Danny Bacon and Scott Kerr have both been rated doubtful after picking up several knocks each in the draw on Saturday. With Bacon almost certainly out, it could open the way for Birch to get his first game of the seasonOther than those 2, it will more than likely be the same squad that started the game with the team that started against County.

Who I think will start (Right to left)

Marriott

Beevers   Moses    Morgan    Hughes

Frecklington   Amoo     Mayo

Birch      Stallard    Forrester

Hereford showed they meant business with a comprehensive 2-0 win at Stockport County on Saturday afternoon although several reports credit goalkeeper Wayne Brown as one of the reasons Hereford won. It was their first game back in the football league although that almost didn't happen after being second best in the Conference Playoff Final against Halifax Town back in May.

Hereford's key player is club captain, Tamika Mkandawire who joined the Bulls from West Brom a few years ago and he has become a firm fans favourite and was on the scoresheet in Saturday's victory. Another player who could prove effective for Hereford is Alex Jeannin, the left back has plenty of league experience and Andy Ferrell has Premiership experience with Newcastle United.

Hereford are highly capable doing well in this division and are many people's dark horses for promotion.
