Boydless but definately not hopeless
By Nathan Jackson July 29 2006
Adam Boyd has left Hartlepool United but the team who were 8 minutes away from the championship could go straight back up. After 6 years of chasing promotion, Hartlepool were surprisingly relegated back to this division but with an impressive squad, that shouldn't last for long.

Manager : Danny Wilson

Key Player : Dimi Konstantopolous

Tipped by many for : Midtable

Last Season : Hartlepool came back down to earth with a bump and after 6 straight years of promotion chasing, they were relegated back to League 2 just 12 months after being 8 minutes away from the championship. It was a poor season for ‘Pool all around and the form that had kept them in good form over the previous 6 years and they often struggled to get off on an unbeaten run, infact Hartlepool only won back to back league games once and that came with a 4 game winning run midway through the season which pushed them into Midtable but one of the favourites for the League 1 title were relegated.

This season : Hartlepool have lost star striker Adam Boyd but one thing that definitely works in Pool’s favour is that they won promotion from this division with a fair few of the players in their current squad. Pool have several top quality players including Micky Barron, Michael Nelson, Dimi Konstantopolous, Ritchie Humpries, Eifion Williams and Joel Porter and that could be the main difference between then and the other promotion challengers and it they could be going back up after just a year.

Their success will depend on: If they can avoid losing any other of their star players.

Prediction : 3rd, even with Boyd gone, there’s still plenty of room for optimism and I’d be surprised if they don’t go up.
