Do Shrewsbury lack the Hart for success?
By Nathan Jackson July 28 2006
Shrewsbury Town had one of the best goalkeepers in the league last year but now he's gone but what does that mean? Despite being inconsistent last year, they stil had a great chance of making the playoffs until the final few games but this season could be different in Gay Meadow's goodbye.

Manager : Gary Peters

Key Player : Glyn Hurst

Tipped by many for : Playoff push

Last Season : Shrewsbury Town had a relatively good season compared to their previous 2 attempts in the football league. A poor start saw them win just 4 of their opening 15 games. Going into 2006, they looked like candidates for relegation, sitting 21st, just 4 points above then 23rd Rushden. However, their form picked up and they established themselves in the mid-table and in the tightest division for a long time, they found themselves close to the playoffs and they were close to finishing in the top 7. City beat them 1-0 in their final home game and it turns out that if the results of the last day would have stayed the same, Shrewsbury would have made the playoffs if they’d won the game with the Imps.

This season : Shrewsbury will have to cope with the loss of impressive young keeper, Joe Hart who moved to Manchester City and their season could easily end up being decided on whether former Aberdeen keeper, Ryan Esson can have the same impact as Hart. With quite a strong squad, Shrewsbury should have another great season but only If they improve their away form which wasn’t exactly the best. It will also be the Salop’s last season at Gay Meadow so they’ll be hoping to replicate Swansea and get promoted in their last year at their old ground.

Their success will depend on: If they improve their away form and get off to a better start

Prediction : 5h, it could be a great season for Shrewsbury and if my predictions are correct (for once) they’ll get a nice local derby in the playoffs.
