A new era starts for the Imps
By Nathan Jackson July 24 2006
Lincoln City have qualified for the playoffs for the last 4 years and now despite new management, we could be there again. After a disappointing 2005/6, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic at Sincil Bank following Keith's departure but can the fans handle another playoff campaign?

Head Coach/Director of Football : John Schofield and John Deehan

Key Player : Lee Frecklington

Tipped by many for : Midtable

Last Season : Maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing that we didn’t win the playoffs because for the majority of last season, we were awful, absolutely awful and if Peterborough quite literally hadn’t thrown it away then we’d have finished outside of the Top 7. It was a slow start for the Imps which continued up until a 4-1 away defeat at Cheltenham in mid-November. After that, City just lost once more before March. The only problem with that unbeaten run was that there were too many draws but City continued to push for the playoffs and effectively secured them with a 1-0 away win at Shrewsbury. Grimsby however beat the Imps yet again and City were stuck with another season in this division.

This season : This season heavily depends on how the 2 John’s decide to play. From speaking to them and seeing some of the friendlies, we seem to want to try and play the ball on the ground and in the past, we have outplayed teams who we’ve played football against. If we can get off to a better start than the last 3 years then that will definitely help us put on a promotion push but I get a feeling another playoff season beckons.

They’ll do better if: We do actually play football and get off to a good start. If we can manage that, we’ll be fine.

Prediction : 7th, let’s face it, we make them every year so why should this year be any different?
