Manager : Steve Evans
Key Player : Anthony Elding
Tipped by many for : Relegation battle
Last Season : Boston started quite badly as Ben Futcher was the main reason they won just 1 of their first 11 games but then, a 1-0 win over Peterborough turned their season around as they won 5 out of their next 6 games in all competition and they quickly moved up the table and looked like they might challenge for automatic promotion, however, they quickly fell back again and they didn’t win at all in December. A 5-0 home defeat to Carlisle seemed to stun them into freefall and another 5-0 defeat at Mansfield didn’t take long in coming. Perhaps the biggest insult of the season, Derek Asamoah scored a hatrick at York Street to give Chester their first win in 18, 15 of which they lost. Despite this, they still finished with their highest ever league points tally.
This season : Boston’s season will hinge of what happens in the Steve Evans trial in the early part of the season. This uncertainty of the future makes Boston a very hard team to predict as in theory, they could be a team that challenges for promotion but on the other hand, they could easily become the 3rd team in as many seasons to be relegated to the conference in their 5th league season. This sort lack of stability makes predicting Boston’s season very difficult and simply because of this reason, I’m stumping for mid-table.
They’ll do better if: The squad can focus on the “on the pitch” matters and not let the disruption of Evan’s trial interfere with what they do on Saturday afternoon.
Prediction : 14th, the team that are hard enough to predict normally are making it difficult for everyone who wants to predict a finish for them. Whilst I don’t think this will be their finishing position, it’s hard to predict anything else for them at this present time.
