Manager : Mark Wright
Key Player : Greg Blundell
Tipped by many for : Midtable
Last Season : Chester had a mixed season, it started with a better than average start although they were extremely fortunate to get a point off the Imps in their first home game and that last minute equaliser from the penalty spot meant that they went the first month without a defeat and despite slowing down a bit in September, they still looked a good outside bet for promotion and after the first game in December, they were 4th before they visited the Imps and lost 3-1, it was the first defeat in a run that saw them lose 15 out of 17 games and all of a sudden, they had gone from top to bottom and they were almost guaranteed to go down before Derek Asamoah scored his first ever hatrick in an away game at Boston and they won 5 games on the trot and despite not winning any of their last 4 games, those 5 wins saved them from the drop and then eventually finished 15th.
This season : One thing that’s surprising is that Chester have made virtually no attempt to sign Asamoah after he near enough single-handedly saved them from the drop, however, they however brought some good players including a whole new midfield. If it wasn’t for this major turnover in payers then they would normally have gotten a prediciton for a good season but due to most new players not gelling on the pitch straight away, it could be an uneventful season on the border.
They’ll do better if: The players can gel quickly and develop well as a team.
Prediction : 16th. An average season at the Saunders Hondas that will neither see them challenge for promotion or be in danger of being relegated.
