Manager : Brian Horton
Key Player : Dave Morley
Most Interesting Stat from Last Season : When Jon Parkin recovered from injury, Macclesfield won 5 out of the 11 games before he was sold to Hull. They only won 7 out of the 35 games that he didn’t play in.
Tipped by many for : Relegation battle
Last Season : As you can tell from the random stat, they were a 1 man team again and without Jon Parkin’s contribution in those 11 league games, it’s possible that they would have faced the drop. They started the season dreadfully, winning just 2 of the games before Parkin returned for the last game in October. They quickly climbed the table but then Parkin left for Hull and their old form returned and despite beating eventual champions Carlisle, they quickly found themselves sliding down the table and they eventually finished 17th, just 5 points off the relegation zone.
This season : Macc still haven’t replaced Parkin but have brought in a few good(ish) strikers who should score a fair few between them and that could easily be the difference between a mid-table battle and fighting against the drop. Macclesfield have a serious lack of overall quality in their squad but if they can get luck on their side then they should easily avoid relegation.
They’ll do better if: They can properly replace Parkin. They also need to add some proven talent to the squad if they’re to tickle the prospect of a top half the table finish
Prediction : 18th, Macclesfield will do well to get close to the top of the table but they should have no problems at all in avoiding the drop, especially if their new signings gel quickly enough.
