Manager : Paul Lambert
Key Player : Tommy Mooney
Tipped by many for : Promotion, probably via playoffs
Last Season : I hate to say I told you so but when Wycombe beat Lincoln in October because of 2 Alan Marriott mistakes, I said Wycombe wouldn’t get promoted and I was right. They went on a club record undefeated run but as soon as they lost to Bury just before Christmas, they fell apart and by the end of the season, they were truly awful. Some blamed their collapse on Nathan Tyson’s sale to Nottingham Forest but Wycombe were still winning after he left so that excuse is rubbish because they weren’t good enough earlier in the season and they certainly weren’t come the end of the season. Unfortunately, tragedy of the pitch was another reason why it wasn’t a successful season for Wycombe and who knows, without those incidents, Wycombe may well have gone up but I guess we’ll never know now.
This season : With their captain sold and Gorman gone from the club, there is a distinct lack of quality left at Adams Park and their form towards the end of last season will hard to forget and especially at capitulating in the playoffs, it will more than likely have a negative effect on Wycombe.
They’ll avoid this fate if : They stop living on the hype that everyone gave them last season
Prediction : 20th, they’re not nearly as good as everyone thinks and they’ll be lucky not to go down.
