Phoenix Bash Rossington!

Westy
By Tony
September 11 2006
Rotherham Phoenix put in a strong performance away at Rossington as they crushed the hosts by 55-0. Right wing James Mallender helped himself to a hat trick of tries and inside centre Simon Duke chipped in with a brace.

Pete Robinson, Luke Palethorpe, Richard Westran, and Jamie Morris also breached the whitewash and fly half Tom Jenkinson made five successful conversions in a one sided affair.

The game should have been Rotherham’s first Yorkshire 5 league game of the season; however it was cancelled as a league fixture due to Rossington being unable to field 15 registered players.

Nevertheless, the match was a good early season workout, which enabled several injured or previously missing players to have a competitive game before the league/cup fixtures begin. And the match will now be re-scheduled for later on in the season.

Rotherham’s next game is on Saturday at home (Herringthorpe) in the cup to Hessle.
