James Mallender

Rotherham Phoenix – the amateur arm of the club – made an encouraging start in a pre-season warm up game at Scunthorpe, despite suffering a narrow 15 – 7 defeat in adverse weather conditions.
ROTHERHAM PHOENIX

Rotherham’s performance was creditable considering that nine players were unavailable due to injuries and various commitments, coupled with the fact that last season Rotherham endured a 40-5 beating at Scunthorpe.

There was a strong performance from the pack in what was mainly a forward orientated game, which saw Roth camped in the opposition 22 for long periods. Rotherham also had one try disallowed for being held up over the line and some dubious refereeing decisions which ultimately cost Roth the victory.

Next week will see Rotherham Phoenix start their league campaign with an away trip to Rossington and with a number of injured players returning the future is looking very bright for Rotherham.
