Haddrell Scores On Return |
| Vauxhall Motors went into this match looking for revenge after they were
undeservedly denied a place in the F.A. Cup 3rd round last season. This
friendly was part of the sale of Matt Haddrell.
The first half saw the visitors take the lead from Macclesfield striker Martin Carruthers as he ran through the Motors defence and slotted the ball past Andy Ralph. Later on in the first half Maccelsfield doubled their lead when former Crewe striker John Miles added another and the score was then 2-0. Vauxhall were then rewarded a penalty with about 10 minutes remaining in the first half and Peter Cumiskey stepped up calmly and sent the keeper the wrong way. Vauxhall then started to pile on some pressure in search of an equaliser and had some good shots on target but saved by Matt Higgins in the Macclesfield goal. John Miles then had a good shot that Andy Ralph could only parry and Martin Carruthers followed up a good shot from a yard out but somehow Ralph made a magnificent save and pushed it round the post for a corner. Half Time: Vauxhall Motors 1-2 Macclesfield Town The new look Vauxhall Motors came out to try and cope with the 3rd Divisions pressure. The changes saw just one player for the home side stay on and the rest were subbed. The second half started with some good attacking moves from the visitors and were rewarded with a corner minutes later when Martin Carruthers hit a powerful headed that went straight into the back of the net and suddenly looked like it just wasn't going to be Vauxhall day. The visitors shown no sign of slacking even though they had a reasonably comfortable lead and John Miles got his second of the match by hitting home a good cross from Whittaker. Matt Haddrell then completed his return to Rivacre Park with a trade-mark header from about 12 yards out which gave the visitors a convincing 5-1 win.
