Airdrie News Sunday 14th November 2004 |
Clans Chiefs View:- Some would say that the our victory over the Bully Wee was the surprise result of the afternoon But as every Diamond knows, you should expect the unexpected when we are the underdogs.
The taunts of “Top of the league, yer havin a laugh” aimed at a very disappointing Clyde support, were well justified when after only 16 minutes the Diamonds found themselves 2 – 0 up with superb headed goals by Coyle and Roberts. For a team that were league leaders before 3 o clock Clyde looked very poor. After the break they did improve as was expected and scored what turned out to be a consolation goal. Comeback man Alan Gow put the game beyond doubt though with a well-executed goal that sealed a well deserved victory for the Diamonds, which was all the more satisfying since the opposition hadn’t lost a goal since the 25th of September. In fact it is worth pointing out that the last team to defeat our visitors in the league was, you guessed it, Airdrie. It appears that we just might be the Cumbernauld gypos boggey team. “Can we play you every week” would have been an appropriate, jibe to those in the east sand.
Craig Dalziel Comments:-
So since the middle of last week I have been celebrating my birthday and was looking to cap it all off with an Airdrie win.....any win, 1-0 would have been fine! Counting the costs of the previous 3 nights i decided that to avoid being left skint for uni, a wee flutter on the diamonds at 2/1 was worth the shout! so £10 on the Diamonds and off to the game!
Arriving just before kick off to hear that the midfield i have been wanting to see since everyone has been fit was the one playing and also the fact that Gowser was playing left me in no doubt we would win!
14 minutes and goal, I was confused as to who was given credit for the goal and didnt want to celebrate until i knew for sure that it was old King Goals who had been credited. Once confirmed, i proceeded to go crazy, in truth all i had paid my cash for was to see number 9 scoring another goal(his 9th goal) as it takes me 1 goal closer to my £700!
3-0 and a good performance by Airdrie has left everyone begging for more, just like it was in the run in last year.......................im working on Saturday and cant go to dingwall but i will be glued to Jeff Stelling hoping for a nice win from the diamonds and another couple goals by that man Coyle!
