Arwel Thomas’s French nightmare may have come to an end by agreeing to join the Warriors, however Thomas will only have a year to prove himself or face an uncertain future. 29-year-old Thomas has only agreed a one-year deal that will see him leave Pau and return to Wales with the warriors next season.

Thomas’ return coincides with Neil Jenkins retirement and the former test fly half will initially act as cover for when Ceri Sweeney is on international duty. Yet if Lee Thomas currently with Pontypridd can emerge as a credible threat, Thomas could find himself as third choice outside half.

Warriors coach Lyn Howells believes Thomas will offer added depth to a squad already bristling with talent.

"I think the first thing he brings is experience.

"Everybody has always said that he's got huge talent and potential.

"I just hope that we can bring out that potential with the squad that we've got around him.

"He will offer a different aspect to the game, compared with Ceri and young Lee, who are both likely to be away on international duty for quite a bit of the season with the senior squad and the under-21s."

The former Swansea player has been at Pau for the last year – but his time in France has been blighted by injury and a change of coach.

Thomas’ family failed to settle and already back in Wales. "All my furniture is being shipped back to south Wales and hopefully I will be joining it in a few weeks' time," said Thomas.
