An unseasonal downpour spoiled Toyota's qualifying session, but Mika Salo made up for it by scoring 1 point in the team's first competitive race. Allan McNish suffered an accident retiring him from the race.

Not a lot to shout about at Imola. Allan McNish failed to complete a single racing lap, his car suffering a drive problem. Mika Salo completed 25 laps before his gear box gave up.

Allan McNish was disappointed not to make the race start after a major crash at 130R during qualifying. Mika Salo's car did not like it's last set of tyres, and the two-way telemetary was used again to fix a faulty sensor.
