Associate Tri - Series Tournament Oman v Canada

Possibly a deciding game for one side. Canada desperately need points as they near the end of their 36 game odessey to get to the next part of 2027 World Cup qualification. Oman are in fourth position and want to consolidate that position with pressure coming from the Netherlands (who they meet in the UEAin the near future) and from Namibia who they are on a par with at the moment. Both sides have failed to get past Nepal in this series and so will want to 'bounce back' into winning ways this morning. A coupleof changes in both sides with Canada going with a seam unit while Oman go with their spinners once again. Canada have won the toss and decided to bat first.

Wade set to break Prem try-scoring record

Newcastle boss Dan McFarland is confident Christian Wade will break Prem Rugby's try-scoring record.
The 35-year-old former England winger scored a hat-trick in Newcastle's 34-28 loss at Exeter to take his tally to 100 over his career.
Wade needs just one more try to equal Chris Ashton's record of 101, which was set in April 2023.
"Christian is a really good man, an excellent connector," McFarland told BBC Sport.

Singapore GP: Race sees Williams F1 Team let down by issues

The Atlassian Williams F1 Team would come away from the 2026 Singapore GP with both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon suffering from various issues that would see Carlos only 14th and Alex 18th, even though Alex retired in the pits. Carlos would make an excellent start that saw him in the top ten but very early in the race he would suffer from technical issues that would see him lose places. After this it came down to the usual issue of having a car that simply lacked the pace in the race to fight with the other midfield teams. For Alex he would suffer from brake issues and it was decided to retire his car late in the race simply to save the car. Overall a frustrating race which again saw the team suffer from a poor performing FW48. The big question for the team will be whether they can find more performance from the car as we draw close to the season's end.

Connacht v Saracens Champions Cup Preview

And so the Champions Cup 26-27 returns in yet another different format to the last, this time around with fixtures beginning in October. Not sure how to feel about this, it makes the whole competition very disjointed in my opinion and further disjoints the domestic league/s. Anyway, there seems to be a strong travelling contingent heading over to Galway to watch this one. I have never been to the Dexcom, so this will be another stadium ticked off the list (fun fact – it’s also used as a greyhound racing stadium).

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: BATH V MONTPELLIER

“Bath Rugby a des comptes à régler en Europe.”
After the disappointment of last year’s semi final defeat at the hands of eventual winners UBB, with all its attendant controversy, there is a definite sense of having a score to settle or at least having unfinished business in the Champions Cup. The road to closing out that unfinished business begins at the Rec on Saturday evening with the visit of Montpellier Hérault who convincingly defeated Ulster in the final in Bilbao to win the Challenge Cup last season.

Saracens v Bristol Bears Premiership Report

What a great day out at StoneX to make up for last weekend's shambolic display. Bristol are one of those teams who will either play like prime 1999 Australia or 2011 New Zealand one week, the the following week like a pub team still drunk from their antics the night before. Luckily for us (the bears bogey team) they played like the latter and we could secure a 5 point win and reassurance that last weekend was a blip, not a deeper lying issue.
Once I'd caught up with some mates, purchased my chicken george (mango rubicon this week, very tasty too) + pint of guinness, I could sit down and contemplate the teams warming up on a chilly Saturday eve. For Bristol, it was a severely weakened team - no Benhard Janse V-R, no AJ McGinty amongst others whereas we hd gone through a big rotation compared to the side that started agsainst Sale a week ago. No Alfie Barbeary, no Hugh Tizard, no Nick Tompkins etc. They did both seem fired up though and ready to go out and give it their all. As always in our little corner of the west stand we cheered loud as the players ran out and Max celebrated his 100th appearance in red/black.
I did notice A LOT of players who appeared either unavailable or injured. Theo Dan in a boot, ditto James Hadfield, Olly H with a sling the list goes on. We need to pay mind to our injury concerns as that's already 2/3 matchday 23 players gone less than a month into the season.

Lots of people say you can’t judge a team until after 10 games. I’m unconvinced by that but here’s what I would say we have learnt so far. Everybody agrees that our football is better. Going to Prenton Park is no longer done out of a sense of loyalty, it’s actually starting to be something I look forward to again. Been a few seasons since I felt that way.

The second of the 6 games in Oman to move sides closer to 2027 ODI WC qualification. The Canadians need to bounce back after losing to Oman on Friday and it will be interesting to see if Nepal are still the force they were this time last year in this kind of tournament. The crowds might be bigger as well though in Oman this is a working day but the Nepalese tend to turn up for their side's games. Canada have won the toss and will take the field first to test the Nepalese batting.

Singapore GP: MIxed Saturday for Atlassian Williams F1 Team

Saturday at the Marina Bay Circuit would see the Atlassian Williams F1 Team have to contend with both the Sprint and Qualifying for the 2026 Singapore GP. The Sprint would see Carlos Sainz finish in 12th but for Alex Albon he would retire after suffering damage after being involved in a collision with another car. Then qualifying would be a far more positive session for the team with Carlos making it into Q2 and would finish in 14th. Alex would only manage 18th having to contend with a car that was not at its best after the crash in the Sprint. It was overall a far better result than what the team had achieved after Sprint Qualifying. Sunday's race will be a difficult one given the difficulties in passing but both Carlos and Alex will give it their best.

Singapore GP: Sprint Qualifying frustrations for Williams F1

In what could only be described as frustrating and disappointing the Atlassian Williams F1 Team would see both their drivers fail to make it past SQ1 in the Sprint Qualifying for the 2026 Singapore GP. Alex would finish in 19th and Carlos 22nd. Across the FP session prior to the qualifying session the team would have various issues to contend with which would add to their difficulties in Sprint Qualifying. But then reports would come from both Carlos and Alex about a loss of engine power during their runs in SQ1 which added on top of their own car issues made their final sprint qualfying runs that much more difficult. It was later confirmed that the FIA had disabled Overtake mode as a result of a Red Flag during SQ1 but had failed to turn it back on and only saw their mistake with a small amount of time remaining. This would impact both Williams cars. The FIA acknowledged that their mistake but they did not establish whether this mistake would have changed which drivers progressed to SQ2.

The Associates are in that treadmill that they have to go through to actually qualify for World Cups that the Test sides don't seem to have to do.This time it is the ODI World Cup in Southern Africa in 2027. The League 2 sides are fighting through a number of tournaments to get for the final qualifying tournament in Namibia in Feb March next year. that means they play about 28 games against each other to get to the top of the League 2. Presently that means a tri tounament in Muscat between 3 major contenders in Canada, Nepal and Oman. Oman are presently 4th in the table (but with singnificant games in hand) while Canada are 6th and Nepal are trailing at 9th. They will play 6 games ("Home" and "Away") here to see if they can change the situationandmove closer to that final event and a berth in the real thing next year.

In what is the third race of F1's triple header the Atlassian Williams F1 Team moves to the Marina Bay circuit for the 2026 Singapore GP. This race also marks the final Sprint event of the season so it will pose its own challenges with both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon only having one practice session to continue their development work on the upgraded FW48 chassis. It is hoped that the nature of the Singapore circuit may suit the FW48 better than what we saw in the last race at Sepang. It is also hoped that both Carlos and Alex can have event free races given the frustrations they had in the last race with Carlos being spun by another car and for Alex a retirement with a gearbox failure.

ArtetaBall: Old Man Football Reimagined

ArtetaBall is, in many ways, Old Man Football reborn. A skeuomorph is a modern invention deliberately designed to resemble what came before it. Arteta's football reflects that idea perfectly. It combines elements of Giovanni Trapattoni's Juventus, Arrigo Sacchi's Milan, aspects of catenaccio and the libero role, and even traces of Dutch totaalvoetbal. What it lacks is the relentless intensity of Jürgen Klopp's gegenpressing.

Bahrain GP: Race of issues for Williams F1 Team

The 2026 Bahrain GP was a race that would see the Atlassian Williams F1 Team come away with Carlos Sainz managing only 17th and Alex Albon would retire with a gearbox failure. It was a race that would see the team suffer quite a few issues which would impact their race. The race would be delayed after confusion during the first formation lap with a wet track and at the restart both Carlos and Alex would make the right tyre choice seeing them running inside the top ten. But as the race progressed the first of the issues would see Carlos spun round after being hit by another car. This saw him drop well down the order seeing any chance of a good result disappear. Add on to this there were issues with having to double stack during a pit stop, Alex have issues with his car including his brakes and then the gearbox failure. But the biggest issue still was the overall lack of performance from the upgraded FW48 that would hamper both drivers pace. Overall Sepang was a race that started well but faded away quickly for the Atlassian Williams F1 Team.

Qualifying for the 2026 Bahrain GP at the Sepang circuit would see the Atlassian Williams F1 Team come away with a very mixed set of results. After several practice sessions that saw both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon well down the times qualifying was not looking very promising but in an encouraging result Carlos would make it into Q2 and was able to finish 13th. For Alex his session was very different with Alex only managing 20th and failed to get out of Q1. So a very mixed session for the team and drivers but from the perspective of Carlos a good session where he was able to get a good result from the FW48 given his limitations.

And so we move into the end of the Championship. If we are to win this thing then this game will tell us what to do in the last home game next week. 3 games will effect the situation, we have control over only one as we meet Yorkshire at Headingley. Lewis Goldsworthy misses out to Archie Vaughan and Jake Ball is chosen instead of Josh Shaw. The rest of the side is the one that took Leicestershire down in 2 and a half days. Yorkshire won the toss and will take to the crease first.
