Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras and Greg Rusedski have joined a growing list of top stars to pull out of next week's Masters Series event in Monte Carlo. Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic and defending champion Gustavo Kuerten were other withdrawals listed by organisers of the season's first major clay-court competition.
Agassi has withdrawn because of lack of preparation while Sampras didn't give a reason.
Kuerten, three-time French Open champion, is recovering from hip surgery performed earlier this year.
Rusedski also pulled out, citing a neck injury, and Ivanisevic is suffering from a recurring left-shoulder injury.
Top-ranked player Lleyton Hewitt of Australia is expected to make his debut at Monte Carlo, as is rising American star Andy Roddick.
