Great idea and I will certainly be there to support such an incredible bloke after such an horrific ordeal.

I also know that Tigs fans will really step up, which isn’t surprising considering they know all too well the dangers of rugby through their own Matt Hampson.

On a side note, any doctors know about recovery from this injury? Is their any chance of nerve replacement/ reconstruction? Would be nice even if Rob and his family had a glimmer of hope?

Great news that we can all support Rob and his family in the best possible way - by enjoying a great match at a great venue. I shall be there - and now I have to encourage my Tiggers-supporting brother to come along as well!

I've moaned like anything about moving games in the past, but I've nothing but praise for this decision. It's well worth sacrificing a "home" game to do the right thing by Rob. I look forward to being there.

And to answer St Gone.. I had it on reasonably good authority that there wasn't much to be done surgically due to the extent of the injury. That said with how things move on so quickly these days never say never.

For me not being in the Shire it’s actually really inconvenient but I do think it is a wonderful idea and I will make the effort to go as it is for Rob. Is there a just giving page to go along with this they can advertise as well?

Huge respect for our club and also Tigers and above all their fans. Yet another overwhelming reason why rugby excels over football and all of their Princess Neymar histrionics and lack of respect for the chosen game and officials. No other sport would come together like this. Makes me feel proud and humble to be a rugby man through and through.

Whilst the injury to Mr Horne is downright tragic & I, like everyone, wish him a speedy recovery he will have had an insurance pay out after having to retire. Whether this is going to be enough to cover the costs needed to help him through the rest of his life is unlikely & until recovery occurs, or to a decent standard of living can be attained, Mr Horne will be unable to work or support himself & his family. The amount of money needed to support himself though recovery can be debated but it will almost certainly not be cheap & take a moment to realise how expensive it will be just to make his home accessible. The Australian health care system is as difficult a mine field as the American one & quite frankly what kind of club would be if weren't willing to help one of our own & a man who was being lined up as club captain this season?

When some players are struggling with injury & their career is in jeopardy clubs have been willing to extend their contracts to look after them & help the recover. They've also been willing to ensure they stayed under contract for 6 months to a year in order to ensure they receive the insurance pay-out. This, frankly isn't really any different, but it's on a much wider scale. If you're against this, god only knows why, then you've likely never played the game at any level & certainly not had a serious injury from rugby. These are the risks many take every weekend, the risks at the highest level of the game are enormous.

Will it stand both clubs in good stead? Yes.
Is this needed with clubs like Bath or Toulon brazenly treating players like pieces of meat? Yes.
Is this the right thing to do? Unequivocally, unless you've abandoned all sense of community & what both Saints & Tigers stand for.

Incredibly difficult interview to watch but important to do so, sometimes we forget how much these guys put on the line for our entertainment.

I also 'got something in my eye' reading the tweets and retweets around this from our players and others, it brings home how liked and respected he was as a player and a bloke both in our squad and wider. As he mentions in the interview you never know how much the support means to someone in that position, it must have been hell and there will undoubtedly be much more to go through - if some kinds words on Twitter and something like this to look forward to make a difference then that's a huge bonus quite aside from the money raised.

having watched the recent SaintsTV interview the fact that the gy is in constant chronic pain, allied to the paralysis of his rught arm, is truly heartbreaking.

As I read it the club will donate £5 on behalf of each season ticket holder so that would be about £45K and then the STH's are invited to donate either £1, £5 or £10 when claiming their tickets. Non STH's and Tigers supporters who elect to purchase tickets will also have the opportunity to make a donation for Rob. There will also be a variety of collections and other fund raising on the day.

It seems reasonable that the club should make some money, at least as much as they would for a match at FG, as they have plenty of match day expenses to cover as the "home" team, such as staffing, free car parking, free coaches etc - all of which have to be paid for. I don't know what the typical earnings are for a home match but the club should not lose out financially. Hopefully the RFU will also recompense them to an extent.

I don't much like Twickenham but I think this is a grand idea and will definitely attend.

In the full article the club has been completely transparent, they have been offered a sum of money to host the match at Twickenham so it can be tested before the Autumn internationals, that is money desperately needed by the club if we want to compete at the highest level, we simply can’t afford to run at a loss.

In turn this also gives an opportunity to have a testimonial for Rob, with a much bigger attendance than he would have got at the Gardens, so an opportunity to raise more cash for his fund than he would have got had it remained at the Gardens

Anything we can do , we should do.
Anyone with a problem with that needs their head examining.

You could see the pain etched on his face in the interview, whether it was physical or emotional is hard to tell, probably both.

5 season ticket holders here going, taking 10 people with us, a mixture of Saints and Tigers, should be a cracking day out for a very worthy cause.

I'm of the opinion if the club were really REALLY spinning this as a type of Philanthropy/marketing you'd see a large amount of exclusive hats, T-Shirts and wrist bands with Mr Horne's name & face all over them. More promotion introduced with other clubs around the premiership, smashing out hashtags and promo videos on instagram and twitter from the star players of those clubs.

Until things like this occur & yes, they might between now and the game, then the idea that this isn't sincere is in bad taste. Again, take some time to investigate how much money Mr Horne & his family are going to need to get through the next few years, home improvements & remodelling alone will quickly eat up that 45 grand.

I'm a little baffled, though not entirely surprised given the way people around the country currently behave online, that someone would question this event. But then again, I'm no angel.

As Mr Ted points out, and it's being missed by some, though yes, it's a point I continue to want to make- Fiscally the club is not in great shape. 2 years ago no one wanted games at MK, myself included, now we're in desperate need of finding ways to make as much coin as humanly possible as quickly as possible. Yes, supporters will be asked again and again to make up the short fall.
Season ticket prices, replica shirt prices, more expensive food & drink, regardless of the quality, all forthcoming.

We live in hope that Mr Boyd's brand of rugby is exciting (and winning) enough to ensure the stands stay full & the club can fight to stay in the black.

In the meantime the focus should remain on helping Mr Horne & his family in any way the club, the supporters & the community can.

I think there should be some kind of special T-shirt produced to commemorate this game with the proceeds going to Rob.

Something simple with both clubs emblems on the front and 13 Horne on the back that will appeal to both sets of fans.

Unlike other inferior sports, Rugby unites us in rivalry rather than dividing us by it.

As i said elsewhere, To keep things simple just sell a bunch of home shirts with Horne and 13 on the back. Give a small percentage to Rob and get selling NOW. Lost of people will want a new shirt this season anyway, and if it got me an extra £5 and helped him out I would jump at the chance.

A special t-shirt for the day is a good idea too but the more ideas the better.

I would not be surprised if there is a unique match shirt produced for this game similar to the 'Help for Heroes' shirt that was used for the one game.

who cares why the game is being held there? there are 2 simple facts:-


1. The club needs to maximise revenue because the inflation of wages and stagnant revenue is causing a P&L pinch

2. Any extra money for Rob Horne to help his rehabilitation and future is a good thing

Actually Samlee, both are true. The club was approached about moving the game for a substantial fee and decided that it was appropriate in order to raise additional money for Rob. Why can't there be multiple winners in all of this?

Exactly, it's a win/win, extra money for the club, which also allows the club to be in a better position to support Rob financially as well as a much wider audience to raise funds.

The club have been completely honest, it's not just for Rob, the financial package that comes with this was too much for them to turn down, I think you're looking for something that doesn't need looking for

Quite right, this is win win. Good for the club and I really hope that a substantial amount is raised for Rob. Seemingly the reaction from supporters has been very positive (as it should be) so hopefully we can help create a really memorable occasion.

In the short to medium term the best way for the club to make more money is to produce a team that is at the very least, seriously competetive both domestically and in Europe. That will start filling the stadium more often bringing much needed revenue - think back to last season, there were plenty of empty seats even at the Tigers game.

With regard to the Twickenham game, I seem to remember that Arsenal gave away free T-shirts for Wengers last game as coach. Something on the same lines, with something similar for our feline friends from across the border, would make a great impact on the day and send a very positive message to Rob and his family and to the wider rugby world. I'm sure some of our sponsors and indeed directors have some spare change..........

If you had to choose between

A - playing our season opener against Quins at HQ for the money, and then having a midweek testimonial match for Rob at a half full FG that raises less money for him

OR

B - Playing Tigers at HQ, making it his testimonial game, raising more for him but slightly less for the club


Which would you pick?

The way I see it B is simply a much better solution all round. If you accept that is a better way to do it, then your accusations it is "disingenuous" and "convenient" are without any merit and you should be praising the board instead of slinging mud.

We have frequent references to them as Licefester or Thai Girls. Other teams have similar terms but it is, or at least should be, taken in the light hearted way that, hopefully, it is intended.

On a more positive note Leicester Tigers Away Supporters are already booking to go to Twickenham, we took increased numbers to our Bath away Twickers trips in the last couple of years but many were saying they would not go again, now however they are saying for this one and for this cause they will be there including some who felt they were being priced out at F.G.

The point is about the idea that the main reason the game is being moved is for Rob Horne which is blatantly not true.

I have said my piece and I will say no more. If people don't agree with me then that is fine and if they want to make up things about me to supposedly further their argument then that only strengthens my point.

Just got two return flights to Stansted for €40- each. Only two worries now :-
