A Call to both Players and Supporters following Saturday's Match

Director of rugby Jim Mallinder has called on players and supporters alike to regroup ahead of this weekend’s Heineken Cup trip to Dublin, saying that one game does not define a season.
Mallinder and his players were honest and upfront about how they felt after the home loss to Leinster, describing the game as “embarrassing” and apologising to the supporters for the performance.
But the Saints boss says that today is the day to draw a line under last Saturday’s game and to look forward to what is a big month of matches.
“We cannot hide from last Saturday, but we can’t let it define us either,” he said. “This week we have an immediate chance to show how quickly we can learn and how much we want to compete with a side who have been one of the best in Europe for a number of years.
“We want this week to be a springboard for what is a big month for all of our teams. We’ve got Aviva Premiership matches at Wasps and at home to Bath and Harlequins, while the Wanderers have the Aviva ‘A’ League final next Monday.
“Leinster have shown us the level we need to be at to succeed at the top of the game, and it was a significant step up from any other match we’ve played so far this season.
“It’s going to take a lot of hard work and commitment, but we believe we’re better than we showed on Saturday, and will be putting everything into getting things right for the next few weeks and beyond.”

Arguably, given the opportunity it afforded to the press to publish headlines like the one in yesterday's Guardian, "Fans turn on 'ashamed and embarrassed' Northampton, those 'supporters' who verbally criticised the team or left early threaten to do the more lasting damage to the team's morale.
As William Hazlitt said after being knocked down to the ground by Charles Lamb's brother in an argument about paintings, "I don't mind a punch, only an idea hurts me."
Let's pick ourselves up and display a bit more backbone fans, you should know your team will.

Whilst I don my tin hat and dig my slit trench to await the incoming I am sure this post will prompt, I would ask Jim on this platform, two things -
Didn't he say this after the HC final?
Didn't he say that after the home game against Ulster last year?
When these points were raised on the Offy forum, on the two separate occasions, those of us who expressed embarrassment were subjected to the usual;
"Not proper supporters"
"Don't want to go down the Wendy ball route"
"Trolls"
etc.
But where do we go, and when?

Sport is a glorious irrelevance, Saints were outclassed, in 5 years time hardly anyone will remember.

I could have guessed which Victor would be the first to post this type of garbage . Anybody would think this was a crisis
- although I suspect given your numerous posts on the old offy you would be happy to wallow in it if that was the case .Suprising that you have been so quiet on this site up to now .
Should have known a happy clappy would have been along to clamp down on a differing opinion.

You know full well that I've been critical of Mallinder for these past two years, and I do not deny or argue the fact.
But you fail to answer my points, as you have consistently failed to do for as long as you have been posting.
Actually I would have been much happier had he kept his thoughts and comments behind closed doors until after this Saturday. I think his political clap trap nonsense of trying to divert criticism by asking us to draw a line under it is an insult. He has brought the event - and associated discussion - into the public domain, himself.
But hats off to Leinster. It's a long time since I've seen rugby of that power at the Gardens
Oh god, yet another one that only comes out of the woodwork after a defeat...
Anyone thinking they can bring old rivalries from the offy site can stop it right now. It will not be tolerated here. Reasoned rugby debate only.

I quite agree. Lets see what the club's reaction is this week and in the following weeks.

oneandonlybiasedman - regrettably your rude dismissal of someone else's view brings this forum into dis-repute amongst quite a few who would prefer reasoned and polite debate even, nay especially when you vehemently disagree with another opinion.
Its not drawing a line after one game, its a reappraisal after many seasons. Four years in a row where a Pro12 club (Scarlets, Munster, Ulster, Leinster) have played at a pace that Saints seemed unable to handle, maybe its psychological with the players.

And with Scarlets, (almost) Munster and Ulster we lost the home fixture but won away - maybe the crowd at FG is the problem?

Munster was played at MK. I think I mentioned elsewhere, but if we weren't going to show up as a team then there's no home advantage to lose, so with hindsight we may as well have moved the Leinster game to MK and made a bit more on the turnstiles!

I am - and have consistently and unapologetically been for two years - critical of the Jim Mallinder weasel-word apologies. As I said, I would have been happier had he not said anything at all to the public. I would not then have posted. But he stood up, and was, as a result, shot at.
Complain about my posts, disagree with them, but please understand the history, before you offer any thought on where my motivation lies.

Chris - take my word for it - some [guess who] just cannot wait to have a moan .Indeed some lap it up - feel depressed and lonely when they are ignored , probably write to the directors demanding a response and I suspect are justifiably probably ignored again , and again and again
