June 5 2013

Well, I've got the ERC feed up and running so let's see who Northampton Saints get in next year's Heineken Cup!

14.33pm - The Amlin Cup Draw is about to begin.

14.35pm - I'll update this story as the drama unfolds until the SportNetwork software throws a hissy fit! ;)

14.48pm - Amlin Draw complete - a bit of waffle to follow then it's on to the main event in a few moments!

14.50pm - Once the Draw starts I'll update this article, adding the teams into the Pools at the end of each round of allocation. See you on the other side!

We couldn't have had Racing Smurf, they had to go into a group with another French side as the lowest French seed.

And done (without breaking the Admin site)!

Also the first time they've managed to broadcast pictures live without various mishaps. Shame its the last year they're drawing this now they've ironed that out...

Sarries must be laughing

I would have taken Toulouse or Muster n the other 2 they got as easier draw you could get?

why were Castres automatically put into Group 1 ? or did i miss something

Sorry Chris, I was only watching not listening and came in halfway through the draw!

Rob, Racing as bottom French seeds have to go in with another French team, there were already three in our group, none French so Castres was the only team we could have.

I should think tigs and saffies are laughing. Us and Quins however..........

Flinstone Saint

Well that makes our decisions on travel easy. Could only do one away H-Cup fixture next year. Not doing Castres again. Swansea is not drawing me in to visit, so Dublin it is then.

I don't think Tigers are looking forwards to going to Ravenhill - Nobody ever does

Matthew

So Rabo and Amlin champions, French champions, and Ospreys. That'll be an easy group to get out of then....

My predictions to make it through to the knockouts:

Group 1: us or Leinster
Group 2: Toulon - but Chiefs must be in with a real chance there
Group 3: Saracens and Toulouse (dream group)
Group 4: any one but not Scarlets
Group 5: Tigers and Ulster (alternative dream group ... why do Tigers always get an Italian team?!)
Group 6: Munster or maybe Gloucester

Catchy - doesn't matter whether they like it or not, I reckon your group will have two teams progressing to the knockouts.

Catchyerselfon2
05/06/2013 15:41
Brave call to say that 2 will get out of Group 5 - I wouldn't be as sure as you are, as it only takes one loss to put you into some deep doo-doo in the Heineken, as it's that close a competition

Matthew
05/06/2013 15:45
I reckon you and Tigers ought to get at least 16 points off the other two teams in your group, then a home win apiece and job done for you both to go through to the knockouts.

I'm thinking about going Castres but stay in Toulose.

tbf to catchy and tiggs, montpellier looked pretty tasty at points at the end of last season.

assuming they keep trinh duc and their back row is as big as the one put out in the knockout game, they will be no pushover.

I agree with Catchy, not an easy group for us (Tigs) at all. Treviso are mid-table Rabo team who are going to beat us one day, they keep getting closer. Zebre are still whipping boys and Sarries and Toulouse to both get through is a fair shout. Other group with 2 to go through could be any of them.

Matthew

Duncan - swap you for ours ;-)

Castres are probably saying, "Not blinkin' Saints again!"...

St Marcus
05/06/2013 16:36
That's a tough group we've got. Dublin should be a good trip though! I think our group and group 4 are definitely the hardest groups, Sarries and Toulon must be delighted with theirs...

Does anyone know what decides who plays who when - I reckon this could play a vital part in determining who progresses from this Group.

Usually early July, delayed 24 hrs, a few days in a row...

Castres is a pleasant enough place if we get the away game as part of the Dec double headers. The Xmas market is up and it v jolly.
Other than that it look like being a Dublin weekender.

Oh Merde! Ryanair!

Don't be surprised if the December double header is Saints v Leinster. If so, the game in Dublin will be played in the Aviva Stadium. Less than a mile from our home ground at the RDS, so won't affect any travel or accomodation plans.
