Well we expected to get revenge for the Cup loss up at Leeds two weeks before but it was not to be, but what were the positives to come out of this disappointing game? Not a huge number to be honest. The forwards played well in the set piece again both the scrum and the lineouts looked solid. The rolling mauls from repeated lineouts towards the end looked like they would breach the Leeds line and give us the try we needed but each time the Leeds defenders pulled it down. This was met with a ‘don’t do that again’ by the ref but nothing more serious than that – no yellow card, no penalty try.

Ceri Jones’ break just after Jason Leonard joined him in the front row was one highlight of the game, he thundered forward, stayed on his feet and got the pack driving in behind him.

It was great to see our two World Cup Winners back at The Stoop and they met up with their international boss Clive Woodwood at half time. While we had two internationals back we also lost two with Ugo Monye and Pat Sanderson going to Dubai for the first part of the IRB Sevens Tournament. England were beaten by one point by the eventual winners South Africa in the Semi Final.

The U21s just managed to beat Rotherham 18-21 even though eight academy players were elsewhere. They clawed back from an 18-0 half time score with two tries from Steven Jay and one from Chris Lewis with Tom Williams converting all three.

Sadly the U19s couldn’t follow suit and went down 34-0 away to Leeds even though they created a number of chances. There were a few injuries too including Nd Monye who injured his hamstring.

The Amateurs lost to Uxbridge after leading by ten points at half time and the Ladies game against BG Combination was abandoned just minutes after the start when one of the opposition players broke her leg. The Ladies U16s played and thrashed Teddington Antlers 20-65 with Hollie Blenman scoring six tries, Emily Hampton three, and one apiece from Hetal Gohil, Sarah Trundle, Jennie Sinfield and Hialeah Letterman.

So all in all it wasn’t a great week for Quins sides but things can only get better with an away trip to Valladolid to play Centransa UEMC.
