At long last we win a game. This time away at Newcastle. By all accounts it was something of a fortunate victory, we were well behind as the match neared the end.
Ed's diary – 2nd May 2004
Newcastle 15 – 16 London Irish. At long last we win a game. By all accounts we didn’t deserve to win this one. Certainly, listening to the webcast , that seemed to be the case. We were 15 – 6 down going into the last five minutes. Then Beefey scored a try which Tofty converted. A few minutes into injury time we got a penalty from which Tofty put us into the lead. There then followed an inordinate amount of injury time, some thirteen minutes, but our line held. Great relief and merriment all round.
The rumor season is in full swing. The club have announced that we have signed Saracens hooker Robbie Russell and that they will be announcing next week two big name Southern Hemisphere players. What is encouraging is that the club now does appear to be opening up the purse strings and is spending on the squad.
My grapevine has told me that we were again talking to BOD. This seems to have come to nothing as the BBC reported during the week that he was about to sign with the IRFU for another two years.
I’ve had my head buried deep in the stats for much of the last two weeks, I will be interested to see what reaction to them there is once published.
