Its nearly time for the extravaganza that is the International Fat Bloke Sevens.....to be held again at Reading Abbey in Caversham over the weekend of July 15th-17th.
As usual there will be the usual amount of mayhem with a bit of rugby thrown in for those who really want to run round!!
This year we will have a much larger tournament with 32 mens teams and 12 ladies teams competing for the various trophies on offer including the prestigious ‘Jack Wakefield’ Trophy.
Again the gates open at lunchtime on Friday 15th for those hardy souls whose livers are beyond redemption and in order to secure the best spots for their tent!!
Entertainment will be provided on Friday evening by our friends from Reading Rhinos ‘Rhinoplasty’, this year with a different lineup but the same great set list.
Food will be available from the Abbey Clubhouse from 8pm to enhance the now traditional ‘Black Tie and Wellies’ theme and we will again have a great lineup of Real Ales from Loddon Brewery.
Saturday will see play start very early for some of the ladies teams.....possibly as early as 9.15am and from 10am for the opening fixtures of the mens tournament and the finals should be played from about 7pm after which is time to get beautiful and maybe dress up as your favourite Kids TV character to take part in the Saturday Shenanigans that always happen.
Music is provided by Paul Bowen once again and this is sure to be a fantastic set as always, food is provided by our favourite mobile Chinese Kitchen.
Sunday will see many many sore heads but for the first time there will be no Charity Game taking place but in its place we are having the first of what we hope will be a fantastic event and a fitting end to the toppest of top weekends.
The 1st Annual ‘Jack Wakefield Pirate Pentathlon’ which is open to all teams that have been taking part over the weekend and will include such luminary events as Rugby Bagatelle and Rugby Ball Egg & Spoon 3 Legged Race!!
We hope that this will be a fun event in aid of a local charity and will encourage a few more people to stay and join in!!
Our Captain this year is none other than Jeep (George Prout) who will be on shortly with the annual recruitment drive so please give him all the support that he will need to blend the ragtag fugitive fleet that is the Battlestar ‘Fat Blokes’ into the elite fighting* unit that it deserves to be!!**
