Yes, regulars may have noticed a few changes to The Craic. In a bid to update the site we've made some alterations. We hope you like them, here's an explanation of the major changes in case you missed them.
Obviously the colours have changed, over the years a number of people have complained that the site was a bit dark and very, very green. The new set is an attempt to redress this, we've tried to go for a cleaner look with more white.
In the message-board header we've kept the functionality we had and augmented it a little. Going from the left I hope you find the new current-links menu easier to read.
The weather forecast is now provided by Metcheck.co.uk - this is for three reasons. The Beeb's site has gone a bit down-hill of late and the Metcheck forecasts have, in my experience, been more accurate. They also allow us to give a forecast for a specific day (up to 7 days in advance).
The calendar is the major re-vamp. The old version showed you the next month's activities, the new one allows you to scroll though the entire season - we could even go through many seasons if we wanted to but I think simply the ability to see the next few months makes it handy.
Obviously there are a number of spanky new graphics and for these we have to thank occasional poster and graphics genius Strontium190 for his sterling efforts. With very little information he managed to get some quite excellent graphics together - I'm hoping to get him to help out with some other stuff just to complete the job.
As ever, this is your site and if you have any problems with the changes just let us know.
I thought at first I had put it on a hot wash, With more white you will save shedloads of money on toner cartridges. Even more money would be saved if everyone turned down their brightness setting and viewed it in low ambient light...
From a general perspective I like it, but there are a couple cosmetic elements I’d like to see addressed (but also fully recognising that I’m slightly colour blind, so these may not be an issue for others):
Dark blue text on a dark green background is a little difficult to read.
Away game dates are a nightmare for me (definitely linked to my colour blindness) – red numbers on a green background are unreadable.
Bill had already raised the dark-blue on black issue. I think it must vary because it looks fine on my screens (and my phone). I'll look at it tomorrow or Monday.
Like the new look. There is something odd going on though. When I leave the message board idle, the count down clock keeps adding new lines instead of (I presume) just up-dating itself [see attached which I appear to have shrunk down just a little too much].
Replicating text fixed (only happened when it was less than a day, so I didn't spot it).
The countdown clock is on your PC Orson - JavaScript runs client-side. Unless the MB clock is still an hour out occasionally (I've asked SN to fix that for ages).

Dear God, Griff, what on earth does this mean - should I know what 'Javascript runs client-side' actually means?
Griff we could even go through many seasons if we wanted to
Cool! Who've we got for the Paddy's day game in 2013?
Seriously Griff, much cleaner and brighter. Good work.
Fixed width though = lots of white borders... it's because it's white that it's particularly annoying as it takes up a large chunk of the screen. Dark green made it less noticeable.
