Yet no call to Hill despite his run off the pitch and injuring Barrow. Barnes was told by the TMO to speak to Hill over his actions but didn't.

Not excusing the coaches.

Well Wasps or not, this is long overdue. The constant interference and general annoyance the "water boys" cause during matches these days has gone too far. Seeing 6 from each team belting on for the slightest stoppage in play plus the blatant coaching as ably demonstrated by the Boks medic during the Lions series just isn't necessary or funny any longer. Hopefully any sanctions handed out will lead to a reduction of this nonsense.

Also any idea what Atkinson supposedly said to the ref?

Beyond a match ban, can any other sanction(s) be applied to our coaches?

Isn`t it even more disturbing that coach Barrow was on the field of play dressed as a water carrier?

I think you will find that virtually every "Water-boy" is a coach with an earpiece to tell players what is wanted. Some barely carry any water!

Barrow was actually off the field of play on the running track when he interfered with the ball and thumped by Hill causing a cut arm. No excuse for Barrow but Hill caused bodily harm.

It’s a common sight nowadays. Even Rassie Erasmus (an international DOR no less) had a go at it during the Lions tour last summer.

Not to worried about whether Hills reaction deserved more attention of the match report, I am more concerned about the behaviour of our 2 coaches. They should of known and acted better than they did, and I am glad that this has been reported.

This is exactly my point. Hill’s actions were unacceptable but without our guys just getting in the way, like every other clubs water carriers and medics do, then he wouldn’t have needed to resort to it. We’ve seen all too many times how replacement players warming up behind the sticks inflames the opposition and this is no different. The RFU could solve this quite simply by restricting the number of non playing personnel on the pitch to, say, 2 per team at any one time and that they then have to leave the pitch at the half way line, not hang around behind the posts or take the slow amble around the touchline.

Both Scott Barrow and Pete Atkinson banned for a week, and have to make a formal presentation to non-playing Wasps staff on how they feel their off-field behaviour was contrary to the values of the game.

The ban seems sensible but the presentation seems rather a childish punishment to me. I would hope the non-playing staff would know the behaviour was contrary to the values of the game without having to sit through a presentation when I'm sure they have better things to do. Why not just instruct the guys to make a suitable donation to charity instead? .

A perfect opportunity missed IMO to issue a statement to all clubs about the behaviour of the water carriers (they are all coaches or players) during Matches. They are a blight on the game at the moment appearing on the pitch at every stoppage, they should have to wait to be invited on to the pitch by the ref and if the ground has small in goal areas not be allowed to stand their and made to return to the technical area.

Hill should not have retaliated and WB was asked by the TMO to speak to him.

I reckon the need to make a formal presentation to your peers is a really smart way of getting all water carriers to behave when allowed on the pitch.

+1. Especially after the incident last year (Glaws-Sale) - was surprised that there weren't more repercussions from that.
