Storming Opening Win

Young Tom Willis was the hero grabbing a sensational last ditch win against the big spending Bristol Bears. The 23-20  victory was a fantastic way to start the new season and bodes well for the rest of the campaign.

Hearts were in mouths when Piutau crashed over from close-range to give Bristol the lead as we entered the closing stages  - only for Josh Bassett to break away down the wing to send in Tom Willis for a run in under the posts with just two minutes left.

It was our 11th straight win over Brizz but never an easy one.

Jimmy Gopperth's penalties gave us an early advantage before Harry Randall was forced over for the Bears burrowed over for Bristol.

We then had to wait an age for the TMO after Jack Willis emerged from a mass of bodies to score with Jimmy's conversion gaving us a 16-13 lead.

With  ten minutes left Brizz regained their lead but justice was done wihen Bassett managed to pop the ball to replacement Tom Willis as he was tacked five metres out.

Lee Blackett says it wasn't a great performance. But if you can win when you're not on top form .......
