The Blues got off to a great start when after only two minutes Alex Grace had given them the lead. Stevie Aitken to a corner and the ball landed in the box, but was not cleared properly by a shaky Alloa defense. Alex Grace rushed in and his left foot shot gave Soutar no chance.

In the ninth minute Stranraer found themselves two goals up thanks to their trialist, Paul Kerr. The play again started with an Aitken cross, but this time Kerr rose above his marker to head the ball powerfully into the net.

Stranraer kept the pressure on Alloa for much of the remaining half and the only real threat to the Blues goal was an Ian Little shot which Mark McGeown had little (no pun intended) difficulty saving from the edge of the box.

At the start of the second half Alloa manager Terry Chrsitie made a triple substitution to swing the match in the home teams favour. Off went Robbie Raeside, Eric Fisher, John Brown, while Harry Curran, Andy Seaton and Max Christie (the manager's son) came on.

The changes were noticeable almost straight away, with the Wasps regaining their confidence and starting to put the Stranraer backs under pressure.

In the 63rd minute the tactics paid off when Alloa pulled a goal back. The referee gifted Alloa a soft free-kick and Andy Seaton's free-kick found Stevie Thompson with some space, and the midfielder flicked the ball on into space. Keith Knox rushed in knocked the ball past Mark McGeown from close range.

Only ten minutes later Fraser Wright made a stupid error in the Stranraer box when he bundled Ross Hamilton off the ball and referee Thompson awarded a soft to Alloa (and giving Wright a yellow card for his troubles). Andy Seaton stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake.

Jered Stirling almost gave Stranraer the lead again in the 78th minute when his powerful free-kick came crashing off the crossbar with Derek Soutar well beaten.

In summary, the Blues should have had this game wrapped up if they had kept their composure. Alloa's draw was due to a variety of factors (tactical substitutions, better ball control), but the main factor was probably the referee who helped the home side out with both of it's goals.

Stranraer MOM: Trialist 1 (Paul Kerr) - Kerr was all over the park last night and was rewarded with a goal in the 9th minute. Billy McLaren might be tempted to sign the midfielder and it will surely help Stranraer's relegation woes.
