Sharmon Irons, Stranraer's four year-old match mascot, provided lots of entertainment before the match began by refusing to shake hands with Albion's captain, then throwing the coin a good three yards during the coin toss! Her 5-0 prediction for the score seemed a bit far-fetched, but at the end of 90 minutes she was spot on.

The Blues started the match at full throttle, forcing a corner after only 40 seconds. David Graham resulting header went wide.

In the 3rd minute Kevin Finlayson tried a cheeky chip shot from the edge of the box, but the ball narrowly when over the cross-bar.

The play was end-to-end at this stage and it was now Albion's chance to place McCondichie under pressure. First, Jim Mercer headed the ball over the bar, then in the 17th minute Mark Yardley should have given the visitors the lead. Mercer crossed the ball from the right to Yardley, who from only five yards out skied the ball high over the bar when scoring looked far easier.

In the 26th minute Stranraer took a deserved lead when Stephen Swift broke into the box and hit the ball to the left of the 'keeper. Bennett got a hand to the ball, but only managed to parry the ball into the net.

The match settled down for the remainder of the half, with neither side having a clear cut effort at goal.

The second half started at the same pace as the start of the first half. After only a minute of play, Lee Sharp reacted quickly to clear a Diak shot off the line. This was the turning point of the match and it fired Stranraer into action.

Stranraer extended their lead in the 56th minute when Moore crossed the ball to Finlayson who then played a through-ball to Stephen Swift. Swift made no mistake from only five yards out.

Three minutes later David Graham crossed the ball from the left to Allan Jenkins, who headed the ball narrowly over the bar from the penalty spot.

The match took an unexpected twist when Peter Cormack was sent off for his second bookable offence in the 62nd minute after bundling Swift off the ball with a crunching tackle.

The Blues capitalized on Cormack's dismissal four minutes later when Murray Henderson scored his first goal for Stranraer after heading home a Lee Sharp corner.

Stranraer now took command of the match and McCondichies was unmolested for the rest of the match. The same could not be said for Bennett.

David Graham almost got his name on the score sheet with a powerful long-range effort which was goalbound, had it not been for a fortuitous touch by a Rovers defender which deflected the ball narrowly past the upright.

Michael Moore made it 4-0 when he headed home a Stephen Aitken corner after 68 minutes.

In the closing minutes shots by Jenkins and Aitken went inches wide and slightly over the bar, respectively.

With only three minutes remaining David Graham scored a well deserved goal from ten yards out from a Lee Sharp cross.

After the match Stephen Swift was voted Man of the Match and presented with a bottle of champagne; a double celebration as he became a father for the second time only two days earlier.

Man of the Match- The whole team (as Neil Watt explained after the match), but Stephen Swift and David Graham must be singled out for praise.

Overall Summary- A fantastic result with the whole team playing confidently.
