Alloa opened the match looking the stronger of the two sides, and after only two minutes they could have taken the lead. Harry Curran's cross on the right found Gregg Watson, and the defender's powerful close-range header went narrowly wide.

In the 12th minute Stranraer had a fine chance at goal through a Paul Blair shot, but Watson stepped in at the last moment to block the certain goal. The clearance of this effort found veteran striker Gareth Evans who crossed the ball into the Stranraer box to Curran. Only the one-handed save by Mark McGeown denied the striker a goal.

Curran again found himself in a scoring opportunity in the 27th minute when Richard Walker made a fantastic run through the Blue's defense, beating three defenders, and set up the forward. Curran connected with the high ball, and could only watch as his header sailed over the bar.

The last scoring effort of the half fell to Alex Grace in the 37th minute. Taking an opportunistic shot at goal from the edge of the box, Grace's effort was blocked by an alert Steven Thomson with the 'keeper beaten.

The second-half picked up where the first had left off, with more seesaw action. Stranraer boss Billy McLaren also brought on Kevin Finlayson for Jered Stirling.

In the 48th minute Tom Brown tested the reactions of Mark McGeown with a well struck shot. Brown was again on the ball six minutes later when his goalbound shot was cleared of the line by Allan Jenkins. The home crowd thought Jenkins had handed the ball and showed their displeasure to Mr. Thompson. However, the referee waived play on.

With only eight minutes remaining in the match Stranraer almost stole the points thanks to George Shaw. A cross by Finlayson found Shaw unmarked at the back post and the resulting header was brilliantly saved using only one hand by James Evan in the Wasps goal.

In a post match interview with the local media, Terry Christie summed up the last game of the season by saying: "It was a typical end of the season affair and an anticlimax. We did not play well, but I have to look back on the previous 46 matches not only today."

In summary, the Blues were unlucking today infront of goal, but so too were Alloa Athletic. The point gained means the Blues will finished the season in 7th place with 45 points.

Stranraer MOM: Ian Harty - Harty battled hard during the match, but was unable to get the vital opening goal. This may be Ian's last game for the club as his contract has expired and he has made no secret of his desire to pursue full-time football.
