Durham announced today that new signing Mike Hussey will replace Jon Lewis as captain from the start of next season. Moxon told the press that the change was crucial to the team's progression and that Hussey's experience would be invaluable. As well as captaining Western Australia, Hussey captained Northants during his last year there and was a great performer with the bat, averaging over 75 in the championship. Hussey has said that he is looking forward to working with and developing the young talent that is obvious in the team.

Hussey who will be expected to score heavily next season says that he is convinced that Durham are capable of achieving promotion in both one day and championship cricket next season. What will help him is that he could have at his disposal the strongest Durham squad for a number of years and competition for places among the younger players will be intense.

Moxon did praise the outgoing captain Jon Lewis, saying that he had done a superb job throughout his time as captain. There was also praise from Chief Executive David Harker who added that the club were looking to Jon to support Hussey in his captaincy.
