Rubens Barrichello was finally back in a racecar this weekend as he won the Granja Viana 500 kart race. Barrichello competed against several international racers, including his Ferrari replacement, Felipe Massa. Barrichello's team of Tony Kanaan, Dan Wheldon, Alexandre Barros and Felipe Giaffone would take overall victory in the 12 hour, 615 lap endurance race, but not without incident. The race was subject to very poor conditions, which caused several drivers to fly off the track and the safety car to be deployed on a few occasions. Polesitter Felipe Massa was arguably the most impressive driver of the race as he started from pole and lead until he went of the track. Rejoining in 23rd position, Massa fought back but was haulted by a shunt with another car. Six laps in the pits would have Felipe back on track, fighting his way up to fourth position in the end. A very impressive result. |
