Ferrari has apparently given Valentino Rossi a deadline for him to make the switch from MotoGP to race for Ferrari. Despite his recent testing for Ferrari, Rossi has given no indication as to whether he will race for the Scuderia or not. Valentino must inform Ferrari by June of 2006 that he has the intention of racing with them from 2007 on, if he does not he will not be signed by the Italian team. Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo had this to say regarding Rossi's move the the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro team: "Valentino is very fast and a special person. Rossi has potential to step into Formula One. But he is the only one that can decide how he wants to do it." Montezemolo clearly wants to have Rossi at Ferrari, not only because he may be a very good driver but also because he is Italian and therefore perfect for Ferrari marketing. Rossi however has refused to state whether he has any intentions of racing for Ferrari, or any Formula 1 team for that matter: "I've never said I've decided to go to F1 and I still can't say that. The problem is that I am still a motorcycle rider in my mind." |
