Fisi wants EJ to Hire EI

Giancarlo Fisichella has told The Sun newspaper that he would like team boss Eddie Jordan to hire Eddie Irvine as a replacement for Takuma Sato in 2003.

Fisi said: "There has been a lot of speculation about Eddie joining Jordan next season. For me, it would be a great choice.

I rate him highly as a driver and, because he has the experience, the pair of us could really take the team forward. We would be able to get twice the amount of work done in testing and would really push each other along. We would be the ideal yardstick for each other.

Some people find Eddie difficult because of his character and outspoken attitude. Yet we have always got along great. He's a straight guy and I know he respects me, so it would be a perfect partnership.

I have seen what is being done with next year's car and I am very happy with what is happening. With a Ford engine, we should certainly be competitive."

Meanwhile Eddie Irvine has been praising Fisi saying "Giancarlo is one of the best drivers in the world and someone I would have no trouble partnering. Whether it happens remains to be seen."

The Swerve's knowledge of the Cosworth Engine will no doubt make EJ think very seriously about bringing the Irishman back into the fold.  The development time that Irvine could save will be immense.

Fisi was very critical of the EJ12 earlier this year.  Honda's engine development and the deals that EJ have put together have clearly made the Italian very happy and optomistic for 2003.
