Ipswich Town midfielder Owen Garvan is expected to be fit for the start of pre-season despite missing games for the Republic of Ireland.

The 18-year-old midfielder was named in the Irish U19 squad for their games in Slovakia, but he pulled out of the squad due to injury but he will fine for the start of pre-season training.

Town physio Dave Williams: “Owen had a few injuries at the end of the season and we decided he needed a rest after what was a long year for him anyway, he was carrying a few niggly problems that he shook off to play but his knee in particular was giving him some discomfort.

“It wouldn't have done him any favours at all going away with Ireland. He needed the rest to let his body repair itself but he will be fine to start pre-season training with the rest of the lads.”
